Forster & Arnold-Forster Families
In 1859 William Edward Forster (1818-1886) (Greenholme Mills) and Jane M. Forster nee Arnold (1821-1899) adopted the 4 orphan children of Jane's brother William Delafield Arnold (1828–1859) & his wife Frances Arnold nee Hodgson (1824-1858).
Frances Anne Arnold nee Hodgson was born on 7th August 1824 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. She married William Delafield Arnold on 3rd April 1850 in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. She died at Kangra, India on 24th March 1858, William D. Arnold died at Gibraltar on 9th April 1859 on his return from India. The 4 children had been sent back to England in January 1859.
The children were Edward Penrose Arnold (1851-1927), Florence Mary Arnold (1854-1936), Hugh Oakley Arnold (1855-1909) & Frances Egerton Arnold (1857-1921). In 1878 each of the children changed their surname by deed poll to Arnold-Forster. |
Edward Penrose Arnold-Forster (1851-1927), married Edith Mary Ford (1852-1942) on 26 Aug 1875, they lived at Cathedine, Burley in Wharfedale.
They had six children:

William H. Arnold-Forster married Angela Mary Wharfedale Garnett in July 1909 at Otley Parish Church.
The photographer was likely to be Harold Stephenson of Otley, as there are several other wedding images by him, taken from the same vantage point.

Florence Mary Arnold-Forster (1854-1936) married 10th Jul 1883 at London, to Robert Vere O'Brien (1842-1913). Lived New Hall, near Ennis, County Clare, Ireland.
Florence was a diarist, philanthropist, artist and craftswoman. She set up The Limerick Lace School and Clare Embroidery.

Hugh Oakley Arnold-Forster (1855-1909) married 29th Jul 1885 at Highwood, Wiltshire to Mary Lucy Story-Maskelyne (1861-1951).
H.O. Arnold-Forster was a British politician and writer. He served as Secretary of State for War from 1903 in Balfour's Conservative government until December 1905. The couple had 4 sons: William Edward Arnold-Forster (1886-1951), Mervyn Nevil Arnold-Forster (1888-1927), John Anthony Arnold-Forster (1889-1958), Hugh Christopher Arnold-Forster (1890-1965). |
